Middle Market PE Fundraising Flat in 2018
Pitchbook reports that "investors closed on 130 middle market PE funds in 2018" (on $110B), representing a 22% drop in the number of funds (and a 6% drop in the dollars). That said, 2018 represented the 4th-highest annual total in the last decade.
Midmarket Firms Showing Signs of Pessimism
According to a recent Barlow Research Economic Pulse report, middle-market firms have started to show pessimism following the recent government shutdown -- concerns include reduced sales forecasts to go along with worries of a recession beginning in 2019 or 2020.
